A little while ago I had the chance to visit the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Centre and while the collection is incredible with some amazing aircraft on display I was, of course, drawn to a little display tucked away to the side showcasing aircraft machine guns!
The small but surprisingly comprehensive display featured everything from Lewis Guns to an M134 Minigun. The display included aircraft machine guns which armed a variety of American aircraft but also captured examples from Germany, Italy and Japan – including a pair of very interesting dual mount Type 89 and Type 1s.
